Not because there is something wrong with them, per se, but because they regard the selection as a rational process, a matter of finding someone who meets their physical and intellectual requirements. They desire a mate of the mind: The INTJ will figure out very quickly, usually by the first or second date, whether or not a relationship has a future. If not the INTJ will not waste time toying with courtships of little promise; they are done and they will not look back. Masterminds rely on their heads rather than their hearts when dating, and thus are often accused of being cold and calculating when breaking things off. However, contrary to popular belief, INTJs are deeply emotional, even romantic types.

As soon as I was able to use it to explain my weirdness, I wanted the rest of my family to type themselves, including my husband. Of course these are generalizations, something personality theory as a whole is subject to. I think it was this that got my attention when I met my husband:

We embody the suppression of emotion, not the expression of it. We can be so matter-of-fact and hard-headed that it’s difficult to imagine us doing something as frivolous as falling in love. At the same time, we want a relationship. We know that we’re pretty darned outstanding as relationship material, just too awkward to play the dating game. Is there a way around this conundrum? Here are some tips to help the socially-challenged INTJ navigate the turbulent waters of romance, whatever the status of their relationship.
Words matter INTJs inhabit a world that resembles Downton Abbey – cold on the outside, but there’s always something spicy percolating beneath. Problem is, we have not yet developed any sort of vocabulary to describe what’s going on in our hearts. It’s not cheap for us to love someone, and we’re often fearful of attaching value to mere “feelings” in case they turn out to be fleeting.
I say that because I’m probably in the second stage right now. I don’t want to feel how I need to feel, whatever the fuck that means. I don’t know what I need, besides the overwhelming urge to flee from a populated room and lock myself in a cold, dark room. I don’t grieve for those I lost; I don’t grieve differetly, because I, apparently, don’t fucking grieve — I get bitter.
Not the toss-and-turn-for-four-fucking-hours, pillow-throwing, rage-inducing sleep. Not the kind of sleep that eventually ends with laying in bed until the afternoon, only to “wake up” tired and numb.
INTJ’s are not known for placing a lot of emphasis on romance. We embody the suppression of emotion, not the expression of it. We can be so matter-of-fact and hard-headed that it’s difficult to imagine us doing something as frivolous as falling in love.
Posted in Psychology , Science Fiction by Marissa My Star Wars obsession has lain dormant for 10 years, buried under delta shields, gate addresses, consulting detectives, and madmen in blue boxes. As The Force Awakens, so has the part of me that used to spend hours on Star Wars message boards debating casting news and plot points for the prequels trilogy.
Readers have been so happy with my Disney princesses chart trying to sort characters by their actual type rather than shoe-horn one into each category that I decided to do something similar for Star Wars. A Few Notes … A note on spoilers: The Force Awakens, but I will try to keep them as few as possible and promise no major plot spoilers.
A note on Jedis: That sort of thing is typical of institutions run by SJ Guardian types. This heavily informed how I typed Jedi who were at odds with the counsel like Qui-gon and Anakin. Her response to Darth Vader, her criticism of her rescuers, and the way she instantly takes charge of every situation are characteristic of dominant Te types. The autonomy could be an Intuitive trait, but overall I see more evidence of Si love of tradition and filtering perceptions through past experiences rather than Ni scanning for new patterns.
That she stays so long on Jakku says SJ type to me, as does her hesitancy to move forward into the unknown. When confronted with something an Intuitive likely would have found fascinating to analyze, she wants no part of it because it upsets the established order of her world.
