Pertronix – ballast wire needed w/ Flamethrower coil? tach wiring? HELP!?!

I used the following charts to hook up the remote start: I pulled the following codes from the vehicle: Most transmissions shops are also limited and just want to replace parts or sell an overhaul. Also there is a default condition on most electronic transmissions which put them in 2nd gear default when the PCM sees a transmission fault – this locks the trans in 2nd gear only allowing you to get to a dealer – this could explain why it has no power – also when you cycle the key on and off the default shift condition can go away until the PCM sees the malfunction again The instrument cluster may become inoperative, as well. When you check the codes, one or all of the following DTCs may be set in memory: P , P , P , P and P The most likely cause of these problems may be a power loss to the transmission on wiring circuit

The S trucks are a very popular vehicle for engine swaps of all kinds. Since our specialty is with these trucks, there are many variations offered to install a fuel injected Chevy small block engine in any year truck. Below you will find a list of years and options that will make a bit of difference in the harness, as well as some information you will need to help make better decisions for your swap.

Please be sure and read the extra information supplied in each year for certain things that you may or may not be aware of. When disconnecting the stock vehicle harness, all you will need to do is unplug it from any connections at the firewall, fenders, and anywhere else that a connector may be. The new harness should simply plug back in to any connectors, there should be no reason to remove or replace anything from the inside of the vehicle in most cases.

Apr 25,  · Most times the tach filter is put in-line so that the “signal” from the distributor is clean when it comes into the tach. On some aftermarket tachs for the HEI, the inline filter is manual and is a small box with a screw in it.

As a result, they are easy to come by and relatively inexpensive. I picked the Chevrolet LS1 V8 because of it’s awesome output numbers, availability, reliability and personal testimony from a couple of my friends who have them. I knew it would be a little more challenging than swapping in an LT1 or earlier engine, but so what! The outcome will be that much better.

Here’s where it all happens! We do a variety of things including towing for the City of Pittsburgh, used parts sales, scrap processing, body work and late model vehicle sales. This is where I worked and learned everything I know about cars today! October 6th, – Here are a few shots of the car before we started working on it. We bought it off of eBay from a very nice couple in Tennessee who had to sell it in the wake of passed family member.

The car has 68, miles and maintenance records to prove it. At the time of the purchase, the engine was beyond any reasonable repair. A spark plug broke off and fell into the combustion chamber.

The only problem is that if you look at the speedometer, you can see that we are not moving. These impressive numbers were not even achieved at an idle. The motor was shut off!

Tach Hook Up after HEI , PM. We installed the HEI distributor in my son’s ’87 YJ today. Does anyone know what wire you need to hook up to the tach output on the HEi for an “87 YJ? I tried a few in the vicinity of the distributor and the one marked tach on the old coil with no luck. I set up an HEI out of a Chevy.

Now I see there has apparently been an update, and they now come with a vacuum line ran from the regulator to a full manifold vacuum port on the throttle body. I have people telling me I need to move it too full mainfold vacuum for it to work properly. Should I change mine to where it references from a full manifold vacuum source? I would recommend that you update to this but by no means will your system not work properly the other way. We just found that pulling fuel pressure down in a low load situation helps the learning feature in the EFI.

Allen Porter January 9, at 3: Will not start back for quite awhile. Where do I go from here? Other possibilities are no RPM reading in, low cranking voltage, or throttle closed too much. Shane January 9, at 5: Or just the carb fuel system? This will allow you to pull timing out when you are boosting the engine.

Setting Idle Mixture The Right Way

You can see by the inset that the old pinion gear was pretty badly chewed up. After some checking back and forth between the spare starter and what I had assembled, I had Wildflower’s starter back together and ready to install right. I set about getting it back in place.

Setting up the 6LS’s rev limiters is a snap; all you have to do is hook up the blue wire from the wiring harness to a 12v power source and wire in a button or switch. When ever the blue wire is receiving 12v, the RevLo setting will be activated.

Be sure to adjust the idle-mixture screws equally so that they are balanced. If necessary, reset the idle speed to maintain the rpm speed. This may require going back and forth with the idle-mixture and idle-speed screws to achieve the best idle mixture. This photo also shows the location of the transition slot arrow 2. Ideal idle speed positions the throttle blades so that no more than 0.

Uncovering more or less of the slot can cause off-idle stumble problems.

Overlooking the basics will leave to frustration and unnecessary time and expense. The first thing to remember that the system needs to have power. Make sure the power connection to the distributor cap or the coil is good, no blown fuses, no broken, loose or corroded connections. A good 12V powered test light should always be one of the basic troubleshooting tools you need, along with a reasonable priced digital-volt-ohmmeter.

Feb 25,  · Don’t bypass the pink resistor wire between the tach and the coil, running a full 12v through the tach will fry the isolation transformer in the tach, that supplies the pulsed signal to the tach .

I love my Chevy Chevette! I rebuilt my cluster and had came across a deal on another cluster to use for parts. As I was putting the new one together I decided to use the tach off the 2nd cluster but did so without knowing if it worked or not – I was told it did but it sure looked far better. My problem is this tach does work but it seems to be high on the RPM side – K and when the car is shut off the needle drifts up to about 15K and sits there until the car is started again where my original would drop to zero when I shut the car off.

Is the needle drifting ok or a sign of a problem? How can I verify the tach is accurate or calibrate it? Post Reply I mow my lawn and find Chevys Posts: I have a and a Z Now either I missed something in the translation of the K. Your saying the Tack reads 4to6 K high. Thats 4, to 6, RPM higher, correct? Then when it sits it goes to 15, RPM higher. Just so I’m on the same page. You are talking about the original cluster Tach?

Jim and Jutta; Wrote: You can run a key switched 12v wire directly to the red wire on the Pertronix don’t connect to coil and leave the stock resistance wire connected to the coil. This will give you the full 12 volts to the Pertronix but limit the voltage to the coil. Don’t bypass the pink resistor wire between the tach and the coil, running a full 12v through the tach will fry the isolation transformer in the tach, that supplies the pulsed signal to the tach electronics.

Thanks Don, now that’s thinking outside the box, I just assumed the 12V “had” to be ran through the coil to the ignitor. My only issue is that I also added a flame thrower lll coil which calls for a full 12V according to the instructions that came with it.

And the Muncie four-speed didn’t shift with near the smoothness of the Hurst linkages offered as original equipment on some competitors.

Mike Ervin Update by: All of these gauges are in-dash units so I had to figure out how I was going to mount them. I have seen setups with all of them mounted on the face of the bezel, and also using the billet aluminum replacement bezel that you can buy from LMC. I just didn’t like the way it looked after you get them in.

Oct 08,  · Re: how to hook up a tach to johnson motor Please click the thumbnail. The normal wiring takes the tach positive voltage from the accessory post on the ignition switch (purple wire) and the negative (solid black wire) from the smaller M post on the ignition switch.

May 18, , I did not like the idea of switching the gauges with the fuel tank selector. Seems like a recipe for running out of gas to me. For you aviation buffs, cf. So I mounted a second fuel gauge in the empty position. This position would take the clock, or, if you got a tach, it would take a small fuel gauge instead of the big honking one next to the speedometer.

So, there’s a small fuel gauge made that fits into that position, and with a little work, you can put a second fuel gauge there, which I did. Two tanks, two gauges. Having a tach would be nice, though. Sure, it went into a different basket, but the basket could be modded, just like I modded the basket to take the small fuel gauge in the empty position.
